Microsoft is enhancing Windows Update with a new automated solution to address problematic driver installations. The tech giant is introducing a "Cloud-Initiated Driver Recovery" feature designed to automatically replace faulty drivers with previously working versions, reducing disruption for Windows 11 users.
The Verge reports that Microsoft has developed this new automated recovery system to address driver-related issues without requiring manual intervention from users or hardware partners. According to Garrett Duchesne, principal program manager at Microsoft, when a driver is identified as having quality issues during the company's shiproom evaluation process, Microsoft can now initiate a recovery action from the cloud, replacing the problematic driver on affected devices. Currently, Windows 11 users must manually roll back drivers or wait for hardware vendors to publish new fixes to work around any problems.
The feature is currently being tested with Microsoft's hardware partners and is expected to begin rolling out gradually in September. For more details, see the original article on The Verge.
