In a recent discussion, Microsoft AI head Mustafa Suleyman retracted his earlier claims regarding the potential for AI to replace jobs in the white-collar sector. Instead of suggesting that AI would completely automate roles such as lawyers or accountants, he clarified that the technology is intended to assist these professionals by completing specific tasks more efficiently.
According to The Verge, during an episode of the podcast Decoder, Suleyman emphasized the distinction between tasks and jobs, stating that while AI can automate mundane tasks like sending emails or creating presentations, it does not eliminate the need for human roles. He previously suggested that many white-collar jobs could be automated within 12 to 18 months, but he now insists that AI will enhance productivity without necessarily replacing the workforce.
