SpaceX Secures $4 Billion Contract for Advanced Missile-Tracking Satellites

SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, has recently been awarded a significant contract by the Pentagon valued at $4.16 billion. This contract is aimed at developing missile-tracking satellites that will be part of the U.S. military's ambitious "Golden Dome" defense system. The initiative is designed to enhance the capabilities of the U.S. Space Force in detecting and tracking airborne threats from space.

According to Bloomberg, the Space Force announced this award, highlighting that these sensor-equipped satellites will play a crucial role in identifying and neutralizing potential missile threats. SpaceX is already engaged in developing other components of the Golden Dome system, which is inspired by Israel's Iron Dome. This project aims to improve missile defense capabilities and is expected to have operational readiness by the end of 2028.
