Strava Implements API Subscription to Combat AI Scraping

Strava, the popular fitness tracking platform, is making significant changes to its API access policies in response to the rise of zero-code AI applications and data scraping. Starting now, developers wishing to utilize Strava's data will need to subscribe for $11.99 per month. This move is aimed at safeguarding the platform from increased scraping activities that have been reported to hinder performance.

According to The Verge, Strava has attributed this decision to a staggering 448% increase in developer applications year-to-date and numerous violations of its API policies. The company has noted that these AI tools allow users to rapidly create applications that excessively utilize its API, leading to degraded service for all users. Previously, developers could access Strava's API for free, which made it necessary for the company to tighten its restrictions amidst growing concerns over data misuse.
